Made this dress for my Bday back in April but decided to recreate it due to a few minor things that I wasn’t too crazy about. The original dress was a dark gray but I decided for such a sexy dress, a timeless year round color would be a better suitor. Plus, you can never go wrong with a little black dress.

I added a knot twist with ruching in the front to accentuate the curves by cinching the small of the waist. The added layer of fabric on the hips is subtle but enough to create an illusion (if you’re thin) of an hourglass figure. However, what I LOVE the most about the ruching is that I can wear a “body conscious” dress without feeling self conscious because my tummy area is not completely exposed! It’s like a shelter just in case I’m going to have a large meal. :)

But what kind of BRA?

In case you’re wondering what kind of bra is best to wear with this dress, here are a few of my favorite picks.  These backless bras can offer minimal or maximum support depending on the style and what’s your preference.  Click on photo to view more details on each bra or you can do a google search for “backless bra”s and a ton will come up.

I was roaming Nordstrom’s New Savvy dept sometime last week and came across this cute little blue leather jacket. As any Nordie-a-holic would know, the Savvy dept was re-vamped with the new trendy pieces that are so reasonable in prices. Some of my favorite New Savvy brands include: ASTR, Topshop, Wayf, ASTR, and MINKPINK. They all offer unique pieces under $100. This jacket is from BLANKNYC and definitely a new favorite! Hope you had a fantastic week and I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for the weekend!

I’m a huge fan of delicate girly dresses but sometimes it’s nice to juxtapose feminine pieces with something a bit edgy. This little leather vest with gold hardware was perfect and the vivid black sets a nice contrast against the soft peach. Sometimes the most interesting outfits can come from mixing different elements of colors, edge and sweetness…breaking up the expected and pairing it with the unexpected.

Pleated Love Affair

I’m a huge fan of statement pieces (especially with beautiful semi precious stones) so it was naturally love at first sight when I laid eyes on EselviDesigns handmade jewelry by Shainery Vargas. Most of Shainery’s designs are bold and vibrant with a feminine touch of delicate wiring details that makes each piece unique and one of a kind.

I recalled mid last year my girl Sabby of RougeSpark and I searched high and low for the perfect black leather skirt. We seriously went on a mission (no joke) and even ordered numerous skirts online, only  resulting in returns because we refused to pay $500 for this Alice + Olivia skirt which we really loved. All we wanted was a nice quality little leather (or faux) skirt that’s affordable, but for some reason, it was nearly impossible at that time (pleated leather skirt recession I’m guessing).

Well you know what they say…when you can’t find something, just make it. Ok, I’m not sure if anyone actually said that but it sure gave me that extra push. I have to warn ya, the fabric was stubborn to work with especially through the sewing machine, but if you’re patient, you can get exactly what you want for under $25, it’s your labor of love and you can save the money to buy more shoes! :)

As much as I love to make a statement with loud colors and bold prints, sometimes less is more. I like pairing fitted basics usually in a dark shade like these slim fitting high waisted jeans with a cohesive basic black tank and a pair of simple heels…but how do you make a simple outfit stand out? The trick is with key accessories like a fun printed bag or a pop of color from your heels or jewelry. With the right accessories, I think being minimal makes just as big of a statement as an extravagant outfit. :)
