Hybrid

What I fancy about skinny jeans are the skinnies with an extra dose of lycra thrown in…The Jeggings. Also known as the love child of jeans and leggings, these hybrid pants are one of my fave to-go-to item when I’m going out, running errands, or just lounging around on weekends.

However, over the past few seasons, jeggings was tagged with a bad rep due to many unexpected appearances of “the camel toe” and other bodily features that I’m sure you’re all aware of. But just because there are a few bad jeggings out there, it doesn’t mean they all bad.

As a devoted jegging’s owner and in the interest and protection of the jeggings species, I want to share a few reasons why I think they are awesome and should not be banished. Here are my top 10 arguments for jeggings.

10 Reasons why Jeggings are Awesome:

1. They are freakin’ comfortable.

2. Gain weight or eat a huge meal, you can zip up your jeggings and still breathe!

3. Black jeggings can totally be passed for jeans, but comfier.

4. It doesn’t take 10 minutes to squeeze into your skinnies.

5. Tucking your pants into boots is no longer a chore.

6. They are versatile and can be paired with heels, chic top, and blazer for a night out or a tee and ballerina flats for running errands.

7. You can do yoga in them.

8. Unlike “leggings,” you don’t have to wear a long top to cover your butt and can even tuck your shirt in your jeggings.

9. You can do cart wheels in them.

10. They are lightweight and are easily packed. Did I mention they are freakin’ comfortable?

Citrus

“Your attitude is like a box of crayons that color your world. Constantly color your picture gray, and your picture will always be bleak. Try adding some bright colors to the picture by including humor, and your picture begins to lighten up.” -Allen Klein

When I first wore pleats, they were plaid and paired with knee-high socks, accompanied with a heavy backpack and a pimply forehead. Never was the day I thought pleats and I  would meet again with such love and affection…

Inspired by one of my favorite decades the 1950s, the pleated skirt is a trend that has been reinvented with various bold colors and prints for the modern outfit (thank goodness!). Whether it’s a mini, midi, or maxi, this style is flirty, feminine and will add a touch of elegance to your appearance.

:: Style Tips :: How to Wear Pleated Skirts

Tops: To achieve the flowy and effortless look, pair your midi or maxi with a crop top, a loosely fitted blouse, a simple tee, a tank or tube top. A mini has less flexibility because it’s short and shows a lot of legs. Add contrast to your mini by pairing it with something loose-fitting like a simple tee for a casual look or a blouse for a dressier look.

Shoes: Sandals, wedges, flats and pumps all goes well with pleated skirts. For a relaxing day out, pair your maxi with flats. If you’re feeling a little edgy, ankle boots and the mini make a dashing combo.

Accessories: Don’t forget to accessorize! Whether it’s a fun necklace, a statement ring, earrings, belt or scarf, adding these little elements can make the outfit even more special.

Patterns/Colors: Do the color mixing. Mixing bright colors is so much fun and can cheer up a gloomy day (for me at least). If you’re feeling a little adventurous and want to mix patterns, try mixing patterns that are not too large.

Finally, don’t be afraid to try something new. Whether it’s an alarmingly bright color or a  style different from your everyday getup. Give it a chance because you may be surprise how fabulous it can be on you…

xoxo

Casual in the City

“The only real elegance is in the mind; if you’ve got that, the rest really comes from it.” -Diana Vreeland

 Shirt: H&M
Jeans: High-waisted denim from DeMasque
Hat: Juicy Couture Perforated Fedora from ShopBop
Necklace: Forever21
Bracelets: Gift from mom

My husband, NR (the man behind the lens) and I decided to do a bit of sight seeing at Twin Peaks (SF) this Saturday because it was such a lovely day in the city. The road was very winding, but when we reached the top, the view was breathtaking. We hung around, took lots of photos and stopped by a local pizzeria to feed our hungry tummies.

* * *

I wanted to be casual but fun so I picked something a little different for me, the high-waisted denims… I know they have a reputation for looking like “mom jeans” but sometimes a higher waist can actually make a waist look leaner because it smoothes out  the torso and doesn’t leave any unwanted body part hanging out. Also, with the right high-waisted pants, worn with the right top and shoes can make an outfit look stylish!

:: Style Tips ::

Top: High-waisted pants looks best with sophisticated and “slightly” loose fitting blouses or a tight fitted top. Make sure the shirt is tucked in and does not add bulk under the pants. If the fitted top makes you uncomfortable, consider a loose cropped top so you don’t lose the elongating effect of the pants.

Layers: If the thought of wearing high-waisted pants is terrifying, you an add a vest, cardigan or blazer untucked over the top.

Accessorize: To finish your look, add a belt or go without one. If you chose the latter, accessorize by adding a statement necklace or earrings. I went with a pearl necklace because it brought a bit of elegance to this casual look. Finally, a lovely fedora came in handy for a no-hair-brushing day.

Do you love or hate the high-waisted trend?
