I was reading this StyleList “Ask The Guys” poll about high-waist retro swimwear and the commentaries were: “Barf…I don’t want my women on the beach looking like they belong in the 1950s” and “lets just stick with normal, modern bikinis from here on out.”I thought to myself, who the hell are these losers how silly these little men, so stuck in a mindset that women have to be in an itsy bitsy to be considered “normal.” Sure, string bikinis has been dominating the beach scene for a long time, but high waisted has came back and are here to stay. They are not for hiding flaws but rather the lack of skin leaves a little something to the imagination… Now that’s sexy.
If you’re looking for a beautiful retro swimsuit, check out Andrea Lyamah Swimwear. The brand is based in Canada and offers fabulous retro swimsuits with a twist. Her suits has that 1950’s flair with edgy flavor designed into a classy yet modern two piece. I love them because they are so classy, yet funky and sexy all at once.
What do you think of retro swimwear styles?

PS. Can you tell me where your key necklace is from? I love it!
Hi Dana! I got it from this small boutique in Santa Cruz. I can’t recalled which store it was.
I’m totally bummed that suit is sold out!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!! Andrea has a lot of cute ones though but THIS right here is the top notch and if it comes in red, white or black, I’m all over it!!
WOW!!!!! I am in love!!
This is an amazing swimsuit and I’d wear this anyday!!
I ASOLUTLEY LOVE high waisted swim suits and I especially love it on you! The only thing is I don’t think it’s flattering on all body types, well at least not on me. I have more of a boxy boy shape. The larger buttoms makes it hard to look “sexy” for me but then again I think it takes a confident woman (like you) to wear “bloomers” like swimsuit and still manage to make it look sexy. I really do love the style though and I think maybe I just need to find a more fun print or a brighter color. The one I have is black so it’s pretty basic!
Hi Jessica, thank you for your sweet comment as always. I think the thing with these is takes getting used to. We are accustomed to seeing the string bikinis or the smaller ones so wearing a big “bloomer” in public can be somewhat intimidating. I try to avoid solid dark colors or a solid white (diaper?), so I typically go for a fun print, a pretty color or something with cutouts or mesh. It makes it interesting and thus doesn’t look too outdated. Andrea has lots of cool ones but there are a lot of cute ones also on ASOS, as well as American Apparel. Two of my favorite shops for these high waist bottoms. Good luck and hope you find the ones you like! I’m sure you will look fabulous! :)
I absolutely love the high waisted swimwear! I’m glad it’s made a come back. I look forward to it sticking around. Great post and you look fantastic in the two piece!
