Happy day-after Sunday! The classic tee is usually my favorite weekend getup but I love to take it out of it’s casual movie-on-the-couch role and give it a little bit of a dressy twist. I paired my tee with a printed skirt, metallic pumps, and lots of bright accessories for that chic summer look.

A few quick-n-easy ways to dress up a casual tee this summer is by adding a sexy pair of heels like in outfit 1; pairing with a feminine maxi skirt and fancy flats like in outfit 2, and adding a chic skirt and metallic pumps like in outfit 3. I love all three for different occasions…

I never really intended to make clothes nor did I love sewing. It was sort of out of my own agony and a survival remedy for a bullied kid who wanted to fit in.

Growing up, we didn’t shop at department stores or wore designer clothes. Every few months my mom would take me to the local community church where they sell clothes for $0.50 an item and I was always so excited because that means new clothes for school. Of course nothing ever fits and most of the time they were outdated. When I went to school with my “new clothes,” I’d get teased and bullied for not matching or wearing something that wasn’t “good enough.” For those reasons, I started sewing and became quite crafty at hemming pants that were too long, trimming over-sized skirts, turning bagging tops into a form fitting tank and sometimes removing excess fabric to create an entirely different garment. At 10, my mom bought me my first sewing machine and I remember hysterically busting out in tears because I was so happy.

It’s funny how life works. The things that you thought were your weaknesses are actually going to be your strength. I started sewing because I was bullied and I wanted to fit in, but over time, love blossomed …and now it’s my passion and desire to make things that will allow me to express my individuality and enable me to stand out from the crowd.

I made this skirt over the weekend and I love the box pleats because it creates a full and flare shape that’s perfectly feminine and fun, not to mention the bold contrasting colors of purple, green and yellow. I also think the contrast of polka dots and floral somehow creates a perfect harmony. Ironically, I now can’t get enough of mixing and matching as I think it’s a part of my personality: quirky, bold and sometimes adventurous. :) Therefore, I wanted to share this skirt with you and hope it’s unique in a sense where you can express yourself as well.

Sometimes I think the whole concept of mixed- matching casual with dressy is a way to never feel out of place. Never over dressed and never under dressed. I love the concept but I especially love the look and feel to it because a girl’s gotta have a little glam, even when she’s dressing down. :)

I usually love mixing floral with different prints, but today it was just all about dressing up my basic denims. Denims can be a little boring to me so I always try to incorporate key elements like a bright or pattern top, or a pair of killer heels, sometimes a blazer or just fun accessories like a hat or statement bag will also do the trick.

The Gamble Garden is truly a little piece of paradise tucked away in the middle of a busy world. It is a gem and has a very special place in my heart. My favorite time of year to come here is May when all the flowers are fully bloomed and the garden is surrounded with the sweet scent of gardenias and roses… When they say “the best things in life are free,” I think they had this little garden in mind. Or maybe they were referring to love… :)

As much as I love pretty flowy dresses, I favored an awesome pair of casual pants that’s versatile and can take me from day to night. These Bar III slim jockey pants are beyond comfortable, stretches and are so soft to the touch. They’re typically worn with flats or sneakers (perfect for running errands or lounging around) but I decided to dress and edge them up with metallic pumps and a (faux) leather jacket with interesting back details. The mixing is really more of an outcome to my on-to-go-and-didn’t-have-a-change-of-clothes problems than me trying to be creative. :)

LookMazing x Macy’s Video Recap

Last month, I had a fabulous time as a guest stylist at the LookMazing x Macy’s Spring Into Style event in SF Union Square along with bloggers Alexandra of SFShopGirl and Kathleen of KatWalkSF. For those that doesn’t know, LookMazing, Inc. is a start-up but rapidly growing fashion and beauty social network for individuals to showcase their personal style through photo ‘looks’ that can be easily shopped and shared by others.

I have attended most of LM’s events and I have to say they are always incredibly professional, organized and fun! There’s music, cocktails, sweets, prizes, an awesome photo booth and always fresh new faces to meet! Not to mention CEO and Founder Doris and her team are so amazing and warm.

Black and white together is no doubt classic and timeless but it’s not a big happy family until there’s some kind of colors thrown in. I actually had on flats, this tee and hair pulled back for running errands but right before we went out for the evening, I threw on heels, touched up hair and added accessories. It’s amazing how a few minor things can change the entire outlook.

Casual Comfort

When it comes to accessories, I’m more of a silver or gold kinda gal but the contrasting colors of mint, coral and purple of this Chiara statement necklace from 2Hello Beautiful definitely caught my eye and I love how it adds just the perfect touch to my summer staples.

The best thing about coming back from a week stay in a tropical place is that I brought back the sunshine. Or at least that’s what I like to tell myself because it’s been unbelievably warm in this little part of town (80 degrees +). With the weather heating up, my favorite go to pieces are these DIY cut off shorts that I made from old vintage levis, a comfy tank, crop moto that’s just too perfect for day and night and of course a hat for those uncooperative hair days! 2013 Caribbean Vacation Diary Part II: St. John, St. Maarten, & St. Thomas

Time is too swift for those on vacation because our next few days went by like a blink of an eye. Our next stops in the Caribbean were St. John, St. Maarten and St. Thomas!

Day 5 – St. John, USVI: After one too many rum punches on the previous island, Nate and I was feeling a bit adventurous and decided to go play with stingrays in Stingray City. Even though I was deadly terrified and kicking myself later for committing, the tour was a really fun experience that I think everyone should try!

We had plenty of time after the tour before our ship leaves at 6pm so we decided to take a detour to Dickenson’s Bay and came across this nice little beach at the all-inclusive Sandals Resorts.

Day 6 – St. Maarten: Since we can’t swim with the fishes, we decided to do something a little more non-swimmer’s friendly in St. Maarten…the Underwater Marine Tour ($40 p/p). The tour took us out to the coral reefs, where we went 5 feet under the boat in a seat-filled tunnel to look out of the windows at the beautiful life under the sea.

Grand Case Bay has a relaxing atmosphere and I really love the local restaurants and small boutiques nearby. Out of all the beaches so far, this place is my favorite. Not only for the soft white sand, but the water was crystal clear and so CALM. When it comes to beaches, I have to admit I’m a little spoiled so calm + clear, and being able to see my toes in the water is a must! :

If you’re looking for a more lively place or want to people watch, head to the famous Orient beach. It has more of a party vibe with many bars to choose from, music jamming and the more than occasional nude sunbathers on the French side. Well, it may not always be the best place to “people watch” if you get what I mean. :)

Tip: Be sure to bring lots of cash on this island, the beaches are usually far from one another and cab rides can get pretty expensive here.

Day 7 – St. Thomas: Every time we go to the Caribbean, St. Thomas has to be on the itinerary. Not because of the beautiful scenery or the amazing duty free shopping, but because of Cuzzin…’ A Caribbean restaurant located in the heart of St. Thomas where I can stuff my face with the Caribbean Spiny lobster, grilled and flavor to perfection with sweet plaintains, mac-n-cheese and rice & beans. I’m kind of drooling right now.

2013 Caribbean Vacation Diary Part I: San Juan, Barbados & St. Lucia

Perhaps it’s the stretches of sugar-soft sand laying amongst the striking sea of crystal clear water that I love so much. Or it could be the warm breeze against my skin even when it rained…the delicious authentic food, the endless adventure and exploring that we can do…or maybe it’s just the laid-back pace of life and the people are generally charming and welcoming. I think it’s probably all of the above that has captivated my heart about the Caribbean islands, making it my top places to visit each year.

We have taken Royal Caribbean and Carnival many times so we thought this year, we’ll try a different ship on the beautiful Celebrity Summit. We flew a red eye into San Juan PR, spent the day there, then embarked our ship on a 7-day adventure to five beautiful islands of the Caribbean: Barbados, St. Lucia, St. John, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.

The interior of the ship was beautiful but if you’re a frequent cruiser, most of the decor will start to look the same. I would say the majority of the crowd on the Summit was much more “mature” than our previous cruises (age ranging from 40-60s, with a few 30s and a handful of kids). Although we thought we wanted to be on a cruise with a younger crowd, by the end of the trip my perspective definitely changed because we had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people of all walks of life. It was also nice to not have too many kids screaming and hogging the pool like what I’ve seen on Carnival. Though, it’d be nice if the entertainment on Summit wasn’t always at 9pm! :)

[Old San Juan, PR]

Day 1: Before set sailing, we had to visit this little quaint town that is picturesque and truly authentic, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Most of the restaurants here are the real deal and of course we couldn’t leave without visiting our favorite restaurant, Genesis for a yummy Spanish meal. Oh btw, they frequently serve $2 tequila shots which can be pretty dangerous.

Day 2: Day 2 was “sea day” as the ship cruised down to Barbados, so pretty much all we could really do was lay out on the deck by the pool since most activities on board began at night. The weather was party cloudy and every year I never seem to learn my lesson – I laid out for about 5 hours until I looked like a baked lobster ready to be served on a platter. So be warned, the sun down there can play tricks on you. :)

The normal dinning is in the Cosmopolitan and IMO, compared to the food on our previous cruises, the Summit offered a wide variety of dishes that I really enjoyed. Even the buffet in the Lido deck was pretty good most of the time. When you’re tired of the Cosmo, you should head over to the Normandie or Cuisine restaurant which cost $40 per person for 5 star service and meal. NR had two filets while I had a lobster cooked to perfection right in front of me. Then we stuffed our faces with all of the mini deserts (photo above).

Day 3: We arrived in Barbados at 8AM and after being stuck on a boat for a whole day, I was pretty anxious to get to the beach. Last year we went to Carlisle Bay at the Boatyard where there’s a restaurant/bar called Copacabana that served American food and drinks. For a fee of $30 per couple you’ll get access to any lounge chairs or cabanas on the beach, restroom facilities, 2 free drinks. There’s also water sports available nearby in calm turquoise water. This year we wanted to check out a different beach so we went to the Hilton (on the other side of Carlisle Bay). We purchased the beach day pass which cost $80 for access to the Hilton’s amenities, pool, lounge chairs, drinks and lunch for two. The facility was gorgeous but I was a little intimidated by the rough water. Definitely not very non-swimmer’s friendly, but it was still a pretty place to visit. If we visit Barbados again, we’d definitely stay near the calmer side on Carlisle Bay.

Neeham’s Point at the Hilton Resort Barbados has the world’s rarest collection of 17th century English iron cannon including the rare Victoria Gun and Commonwealt Cannon.

Day 4: St. Lucia was the place where I discovered that vacationin’ is not all about laying on the beach. The beautiful unaltered landscape and lush greenery-filled interior urges us to be more adventurous and explored the rainforest. Last year we went ziplining (we highly recommend TreeTop Adventures) and this year we did a 4X4 tour, followed by an easy hike and a trip to a nearby beach.

It has been a fantastic 7 days of peaceful serenity and much needed break from the hectic world. We are already missing this little piece of heaven and can’t wait to plan our next adventure… I’m bummed that our vacation was over so quickly, but believed that all good things doesn’t have to come to an end. It just gives us a reason to work harder so we can appreciate the special moments that comes our way and the beauty of what God has created for us…

Gone are the days of bold prints and bright colors (well, perhaps just for today) because sometimes the biggest statement is the most subtle of them all. As much I love a colorful spring, I can’t resist a monotone look that’s romantic and cozy like this chiffon lace skirt, sheer top and over-sized knit combination. It’s one of those outfits where I can feel completely comfortable yet feminine at the same time.

I hope your week is going well so far! I have been working 12-14 hours daily and couldn’t believe my Caribbean cruise is just around the corner. I’m exhausted but beyond excited for some much needed R&R and believe it or not, I actually really look forward to the packing part. I just need help with learning how to pack everything in a tiny suitcase!

Feeling Blue & Yellow

This crop sweater, with it’s cobalt blue tone and soft knit texture has been a wardrobe favorite of mine. I love how it can liven up a dull outfit yet still add casual elements to a standout piece like these yellow high waisted trousers. I love wearing these two colors together (hello color-blocking!)! It was one of those days where Nate wouldn’t have to play “Where’s Waldo” with me since he always claim he can’t find me in a crowd. :)

The “Husband Jeans” + DIY Tutorial

If you love having the option of choosing your own color, design and like to save some cash, DIY’ing is a good option… It’s super easy to do in a few simple steps and you’ll only need 4 things to create this look (no sandpapers or tedious tweezing needed, just cut, throw ‘em in the washer and finish off in the dryer!).

Growing up, I watch my mom struggled to take care of my 3 brothers and myself as a single mom who moved to the US without knowing a lick of English other than “hi” and “thank you,” but she managed to raised us well and do everything herself. Perhaps I got this quality from her, seeing life as a do-it-yourself project…..or maybe I just hate spending $150+ on a pair of jeans that’s destroyed.

I love the BF because they seem so comfortable but it was always difficult finding a pair to fit my body. Usually they are way too tight to be boyfriend jeans or way too baggy. Then I realized those mom jeans that I turned into distressed high waisted shorts last year would make the perfect Boyfriend jeans (pre-cut). Since these were originally high waisted mom jeans with a little diy twist, I’d like to call these “The Husband Jeans.”

Head to your local thrift store and look for a pair of “mom jeans.” Mom jeans are usually high waisted and have a really long zipper. Don’t worry if the overall fit is not perfect. As long as it fits your waist and hips, it’ll work! Also, don’t forget to check the men’s section as sometimes you’ll find these pants in the smaller men sizes there.

What you’ll Need

1) Vintage or thrifted mom jeans: Price varies from $5- $30 depending on the store

2) Pre-owned denims for measuring: Your mom jeans may be too long. To trim them, you’ll want to align the inseam and trim the bottoms off (see photo above). Make sure the jeans you are using for measuring are ones you typically wear with the hem rolled up because you’ll want the length of the mom jeans to be long enough for rolling up the raw bottoms when you are finish.

3) A pair of sharp scissors ($6 from Joanns)

4) Measuring tape ($1 from Joanns): Measure the top of your mom jeans to your knees and mark those two areas (this is where you will start cutting your slits).

2) Now it’s time for creating that lovely distressed look. Fold your jeans in half (see photo above) and use your scissors to create parallel lines. I like to start at the knee and work my way around. Create 3-4 or 4-6 slits in each area leaving about 1 inch between each line. Turn your jeans over and do the same for the other leg. After you’re finish, throw them in the washer.

Tip: Try not to make your slits too long or else it will end up creating a big hole in the washer. Turn them inside out and wash them in warm water and dry on regular heat. The washer is where all the fraying will start and the heat from the dryer is where it will create that distressed look.

3) After it’s dried, clean around the edges by trimming off the frays that are too long. You don’t have to do this unless you want a clean distressed look.

These Prabal Gurung x Target neon sandals are the cutest little thing that ever got packaged into a box and placed on a Target shelf (right along side those pet pillows). The only thing was the straps kept slipping off (even when bucked in the silver latch), which sent me flying a few times across the room when all I wanted to do was strut like a model. Oh well. I blame my chubby ankles. Not the shoes. It just can’t be the shoes. :)

Playsuits and I have always had a love/hate relationship. I love them because they are versatile and overall very convenient. It’s pretty awesome that you can throw on something and not have to figure out what top or bottom to pair it with because it’s a one piece. I just wish someone can make them a little more public restroom friendly. Does anyone else feel my pain?

No matter what trend I venture off with, there’s always a few key pieces that have captured my heart: A fun skirt and a cool crop top. So naturally when I saw this quilted skater skirt and electric blue crop sweater, I knew they would be coming home with me.

It’s everything I adore in an outfit…the skirt is edgy and fun, while the sweater is cozy, chic, and has a peek of sex appeal. The feminine heel’s nude front elongates my legs, making a quiet yet unique statement with the black t-straps and brown backings…Adding to the mix is my latest favorite bag that has an attitude all of her own! If I would have to describe my style with one outfit, it would definitely be this! Fun, feminine and perhaps with a bit of attitude. :)

I don’t think I’ve ever worn flats on this blog but here I am, in my true state of comfort…white linen shorts, loose blouse, fedora and no heels. I think a part of me was getting vacation-ready for our upcoming Caribbean and Miami trips which seems like neither can come soon enough…We spent Sunday in San Francisco running project errands and enjoying the nice sunny weather. But if you live in this area you know how unpredictable it can be so a light jacket always come in handy when the temperature quickly dropped at sundown…Anyhow, have you gotten used to the time change yet? I’m not really a morning person so I’ll be energy-dependent on caffeine for the next few days. Hope you’re staying awake and having a productive week so far! xo

I love my jeans but there’s nothing as comfortable as my jeggings! They’re stretchable, lightweight, and great for staying cool during the summer. Jeggings normally fit your body like a glove and will accentuate every single little bumps. It doesn’t matter if you’re a size XS or XL, there are some things better left to the imagination. So to avoid the world from ~~knowing I have butt dimples~~ seeing unnecessary things, I like to pick a longer or over-sized top to give the jeggings a more refined look. :)

I wore this outfit when I was running around last week but threw on the shiny metallic Jimmy Choos and added the bold necklace for some extra sparkle for the evening. Since I’m on the go a lot, it’s important that I can find pieces that can easily transition me from day to night. Go here, for more denimocracy or here to purchase the pants!

I don’t know if it’s the birds chirping, the flowers blossoming everywhere, or the abundance of sun rays peaking through just a little longer everyday is hinting to me that spring is just right around the corner. And why do I spend all winter wishing for spring anyway? Well, it’s because ~~my style absolutely suck when it’s cold~~ of cute little spring dresses like this one.

The fading effect of the turquoise and gray blended with a soft lavender reminded me of the ocean at dawn and I love the cut out daisies detailing at the waist of this SwayChic dress. I’ve always been a fan SwayChic because it’s a local bay area store, but of course being that it’s a cute little boutique shop that sells trendy and affordable clothes makes it even easier to love.

Generally speaking, we all know that the sweet pencil skirt, once known mainly for the corporate setting has evolved tremendously over the decades. Today, it comes in an array of styles – from lace to leather, bold prints, cuts, colors and textures…without a doubt, it’s much more fun, sportier, edgier and sexier these days.

I came across this green pencil high waisted skirt with a flirty little front slit when I was accidentally on ASOS (as if going on ASOS was ever an accident). The wet-look fabric slightly resembles leather from afar but it’s a lightweight polyester material that stretches. And ladies, I know you agree clothes that stretches are pretty darn amazing! When it comes to form fitting skirts, I normally have to get the waist taken in so I really appreciate that this skirt fits true to size while the material stretches comfortably in the hips and legs… and believe me when I say this skirt is like the push-up bra for your booty. :)

For the price, it’s very well made and is extremely comfortable that I ordered both the black and green!

The options for styling a pencil skirt is no longer restricted to it’s once one-and-only counterpart, the button up shirt. I love juxtaposing the polished silhouette with different looks such as a crop sweater, a fitted peplum, a tank and leather vest or just a loose t-shirt.

Via my instagram, I called these looks (left to right) “Sassy, Classy, Edgy and Easy Breezy.” I was in a sassy mood so I went with look #1. :)

Mother nature loves to screw with my emotions because one day it’s insanely hot then the next it’s so windy that I can’t even mind my own business without getting slapped by my hair. Well, to maintain a little predictability, I wore (my hair up and) my neon lime top yesterday as I’m guaranteed to bring a load of sunshine (literally) wherever I went. I paired this top with my new favorite trumpet skirt and added gold accessories for an evening out with good company.

I purchased these Valentinos studded lace pumps a long time ago but to me, they’ll never get old. These pumps are like a tough armour plating in the form of spiky pyramid-shaped studs, providing just enough metal for a rock-chic edge, contrasting with the delicate, romantic, and feminine soft black lace overlay. It’s the perfect combination of naughty and nice and if I could describe myself as a pair of shoes, these are definitely the one. Rharr! ;)

I have always been a huge fan of Valentinos and their ultra-feminine, classy and sophisticated styles. One of my favorite place to shop for all things Valentino is at Harrods. In addition, I also love the selections of DvF and Michael Kors. Check it out when you have a chance.

The side-panel pants, once known as the tuxedo pants and typically reserved for menswear are the new “IT” pants for the ladies this season. With the clever positioning of a single vertical stripe, wearing these pants gives out the illusion of long legs.

What I particular love about these side panel pants is that it makes the decision to wear black or white pants so much easier. Not to mention the classic combination of black and white is forever a classic. This look is chic, effortless, can be dressed up with a blouse/blazer or worn casually with a tee or a sweatshirt. I went for the comfy sweatshirt look.

I was in a Southern Belle/Kentucky Derby-ish kind of mood this weekend and this midi stripes skirt that I made a few weeks ago has the perfect subtle nuances of sophistication and lady-like flare. Of course, as you know I am a bit obsessed with colors and prints so an outfit isn’t really me unless there’s some of that thrown in. :)

As much as I love a graceful midi skirt, there are days when I love showing off my legs. Since identical skirts in various lengths are difficult to find in stores, I wanted to offer the option of a midi and mini to my readers…because two options are always better than one!

It’s only February but the days are getting longer, it’s even slightly warmer now and this pretty little pink dress gives me hope that my favorite time of year is drawing near. I have a undeniable affection for spring just as much as I love the color pink. It’s the pinnacle of femininity and this dress is just that. When worn, the bright color lifted my spirit while the shade of pink made me feel beautiful. The cut and shape gave me the freedom to move with ease and comfort and I loved the warm breeze against my open back.

Pink is not only a color, but it is a feeling and an attitude… Did you know that if you want to convey an open heart, pink is the color to do it? :)
