Back to Basics

A no fuss kinda day consist of basic denims and a simple white tee. But being comfortable doesn’t mean your outfit have to be blah. The best way to spice up jeans and a tee is with key accessories: A pattern or colorful scarf, a pair of heels, a trendy bag or a chic jacket. My pick was this power shoulder studded leather jacket… which is nothing but basic.

Although I’m a skirt and dresses kind of gal, I love a good pair of jeans. I can’t stand to feel restricted so it’s important that my jeans are moveable and comfortable. Who doesn’t want jeans that’s extremely soft and are nonrestrictive… Some of my favorite jeans lately are Buffalo David Bitton, 74AM, and Citizens of Humanity and Joe’s Jeans.

What are some of your favorite denim brands and why do you love them?

I haven’t done one of my Fab4 looks in a while and wanted to do it again. This time I wanted to feature my beautiful bestie who owns the same versatile studded jacket. Isn’t she lovely? I’m secretly trying to convince her to start a style blog. I mean, she has major swag and her style is totally inspirational!  :) xoxo

Checkmate

Dress: Betsey Johnson Checkered Peplum Dress (old, similar-ish here, here and various here)
Top: Rubbish sleeveless shirt
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Ron Ron
Gloves: Ebay / Purse: Vintage / Glasses: Tom Ford
Earrings: Kate Spade / Bracelet: Michael Kors / Belt: Forever21

My love for peplums began with this black and white checkered peplum dress from Betsey Johnson purchased early 2011. When I saw it on the mannequin in the store window I immediately fell in love. It was one of those shopping “moments” where there was a bright light glowing around the item and I just knew it was meant to be. Does this ever happen to you? (lol)

I adore the style of Peplums because it hugs the small of the waist and flares out at the hips, giving off an hourglass shape. I think if you have a slender figure, a dramatically flared peplum will give you the right amount of shape and curve without overwhelming your figure. If you are curvier, go with a more fitted and shorter peplum style because it will allow you to show off your curves while emphasizing and accentuating a cinched waist.

Below are my Fab4 looks for: Night, Day, Work and Casual with the same dress. I must admit, it was quite a challenge with this dress because of that dramatic flared overskirt, but it was fun getting extra creative.

My FAB4

Night: Betsey Johnson corset waist belt with black pumps.

Day: Green F21 gingham front tie top with black pumps.

Work: Black panty hose, black blazer, black pumps and a pink scarf tied into a bow.

Casual: Loose pink F21 sweater with Vera Wang ballerina flats.
